I used to mark students' notebooks: "Ok, one-by-one, come on up. Let me see your notebook. Okay, looks like you've been keeping up with the classwork...".
Then we went to portfolios.. and I bought these big bins and gathered file folders. That got messy pretty quick, but I kept it up, if nothing more than to keep all the work in one place.
Today, we've got OneNote Class Creator and you can create digital notebooks for all the students.
NOTE: I haven't yet used OneNote in this fashion. Will update when I do!
Right now, I am using individual blogs (websites). I've set up Weebly student sites where the students are posting assignments. What's interesting is that they've taken ownership of the sites--they look pretty personalized and quite professional. A lot nicer than pulling papers out of those plastic bin files! You get 40 free student sites; after that, $1 per student (in blocks of 20).
