My daughter just started High School!
Though from this photo, you wouldn't know it.
She is working on a project for Science class: describe the ecological life cycles of various living things and group them together.
She is given a massive package of paper, including instructions and a variety of organisms to "cut out". Each organism has a key of letters and terms for grouping.
For this part, little is needed in terms of self-learning. Instructions are:
1. Cut the pictures
2. Group them together
3. Paste them to sheets of paper
4. Colour in the organisms
5. Make a title page

Looks exciting! Lots of materials needed though: glue, scissors, paper, colouring pencils, and space.
A different way
Out of 5 pages of groupings, I decided to encourage her to make one of them using the app Explain Everything.
Here are the steps:
Here are the steps:
Minimum space required; she is able to work on the couch!
Tools used:
1. Office Lens - free scanning app
2. Skitch - Easily crop individual pics from scanned worksheet
3. Explain Everything $4 app to arrange pics & make video
4. iPad
Could have also used:
3 & 4 - Educreations on desktop or other whiteboard / screenscast app
As she was arranging the pics, I asked her to speak aloud and record her thoughts.
